Liverpool Chasing Spanish International?
Liverpool are considering making a €7million bid for defender Fernando Navarro at La Liga club Sevilla, with Reds manager Rafa Benitez keen to add the Spanish International to his squad at Anfield, according to reports on Spanish radio.
The Premier League club are already believed to be talking to the Rojiblancos, with Sevilla reportedly interested in Liverpool duo Jermaine Pennant and Xabi Alonso. While Pennant could be used in some form of swap deal it is unlikely that Alonso will leave the Premiership club this month, despite being heavily tipped to leave Anfield last summer, Alonso has been a pivotal figure in Liverpool’s table-topping season to date.
However, Pennant is understood to have already turned down a move to Spain with Real Madrid and has stated recently that he intends to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place, with Serie A giants AC Milan also said to be interested in the winger.
If Pennant were to refuse to be part of any swap deal for Navarro then Benitez would have to raise funds from elsewhere in his squad to buy the former Barcelona player, with it well documented that Liverpool will have to sell before they can buy in this transfer window.
26-year-old Navarro has only been at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan since joining from rivals Real Mallorca last summer for a fee in the region of €5million, with the left-back winning his first cap for Spain last year and was part of the triumphant Spanish EURO 2008 squad.
