Agent: Arshavin Should Join Arsenal This Week
Russian International Andrei Arshavin’s agent Dennis Lachter has revealed that the playmaker should join Premier League club Arsenal from Zenit St Petersburg this week, with a fee in the region of £15million enough to secure the signature of the EURO 2008 star.
27-year-old Arshavin had been on the verge of joining the Gunners local rivals Tottenham Hotspur last summer, but Spurs were unable to agree on a fee to bring the Russian to White Hart Lane, with Arshavin now looking destined to end up at the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is eager to recruit Arshavin to the North London club, despite having an offer of £10million already turned down by Zenit, with chief executive Ivan Gazidis being invited to Russia by Zenit to finalise a deal to bring Arshavin to the Premiership.
Now Lachter has revealed that he expects the deal to go through next week, with Arshavin wanting to join the Gunners, Arsenal wanting the schemer at the Emirates and Zenit accepting that they have to sell.
“The deal should go through this week,” Lachter said.
“Andrei wants to go, Arsenal want him and Zenit accept they have to sell.
“It's just a matter of sorting out the sums but the indication is it'll happen soon, perhaps within days.”
Arshavin has been at Zenit since 2000 and has scored 71 goals, with 107 assists in his 312 appearances during his eight-years at the Petrovsky Stadium. Arshavin made his debut for Russia in 2002 and has scored 15 goals in 41 caps for the national side.
