Arsenal Turn Towards Boca Juniors Star Sebastian Battaglia After Deal For Zenit's Arshavin Flounders
Arsenal are now hoping to seal a deal with Boca Juniors for their highly-rated midfielder Sebastian Battaglia during the January transfer window, as the much debated move for Russian ace Andrei Arshavin now looks to be in serious doubt.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to bring in some new faces to his midfield, especially after the injury to Gunners skipper Cesc Fabregas which has ruled him out for some time, and was hoping that Arshavin would be the perfect replacement.
However, with his club Zenit St Petersburg determined to fetch no less that £20million from the transfer, Arsenal have now started looking elsewhere.
Argentinean international Battaglia is a highly-rated player in Argentina. However his below par performances during the 2004/05 season with Spanish side Villarreal put a serious dent in his prospects.
However, the Gunners boos is said to be following the progress of the 28-year old, who is also said to have attracted interest from Italy.
The transfer of the Argentine could cost Wenger around £4million, which may prove to be too high a price-tag for the Gunners boss to agree to.
