Andrei Arshavin has told Zenit St Petersburg he wants to prove his ability at a top European club.
Zenit are understood to be in discussions with Arsenal regarding a possible £21million deal, but the move is thought to have stalled because the Russian club want the fee paid in one bulk sum.
Arshavin has been persistently linked with a move away from the UEFA Cup holders after impressing at Euro 2008, but a possible summer transfer to Barcelona collapsed amidst rumours of a high wage demands and Zenit's refusal to alter their valuation.
However, the playmaker - who has also been linked with Tottenham in the past - remains keen on a move elsewhere and the 27-year-old has reiterated his desire demonstrate his skills at an elite club.
"I want to play at a good European club and I want to prove how good I am," he told the Daily Mail.
Arshavin recognises that it is unlikely Zenit will ever rival become a giant on the continent and has hinted that the club should not stand in the way of players if they want to leave.
"I think it is a distant prospect that Zenit will ever be as big as the likes of Real Madrid or Juventus," he added.
"It will take some time and Zenit must win many titles first. But recently the club have been progressing.
"The main thing is that the management should have willingness and players should be provided with opportunities."
