Liverpool Boss Benitez’s Joy On ‘Very Cheap Signings’
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has said that the fit-again trio of Fernando Torres, Fabio Aurelio and Martin Skrtel, are like new signings as the Premiership leaders enter the second half of the season with FA Cup third round clash with Preston North End on Saturday.
Spanish striker Torres had been out with a hamstring problem since November 26, but despite the absence of last season’s top-scorer, the Reds have maintained their title challenge.
Defender Skrtel (knee) and full-back Aurelio (calf) also boost the Reds after their injury problems while the transfer window has just opened, giving Benitez the feel of having three new signings at his disposal.
"They have been very good players for us in the past, so it'll be like signing three new players," said Benitez.
"They are very cheap signings because we haven't spent much money!"
On whether he wants to raid the ongoing transfer market, the Spanish tactician said: "If we need something we will try. But we are in a good position and we'll try to use the players we have now."
